Format: Virtual Panel and Q+A
Description: Join the Texas Governor’s Committee on People with Disabilities for a timely and practical webinar focused on digital accessibility requirements and best practices for Texas state and local government. The U.S. Department of Justice established the ADA Title II digital accessibility deadline as April 24, 2026 for large public entities (population 50,000 or more), and April 26, 2027, for smaller entities. This session will help public sector professionals understand what’s required and how to get there.
Our panel features accessibility leaders including:
- Angel Ponce, Director, Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities, City of Houston
- Martha Foote, Digital Accessibility Compliance Lead, City of Austin
- Deborah Scharven, Accessibility Compliance Manager, City of San Antonio
- Marie Cohan, Statewide Digital Accessibility Officer, Texas Department of Information Resources
We will provide an overview of the Title II web accessibility standards and what agencies should prioritize today. Then, hear from municipal accessibility coordinators about their approaches, challenges, and lessons learned from implementation in large Texas cities. The session will close with live Q&A and sharing practical resources for large municipal digital accessibility implementation.
Who should attend: Government IT staff, communications and web teams, procurement officers, accessibility coordinators, ADA coordinators, and anyone responsible for ensuring accessible digital services.
