ABOUT OUR SERVICE --
PARA TRANSIT SERVICE:
VICTORIA TRANSIT provides Para Transit Services Monday through
Friday from
7:00 am to 6:00 pm for qualified individuals with mobility
impairments who are unable
to use Fixed Route
Service. Our Para Transit
Service is a demand-responsive, advance reservation, shared-ride,
address-to-address, curb-to-curb service. Wheelchair
accessible vehicles are available to assist in transporting persons with
disabilities.
An ADA Para Transit Eligibility Certification Form will be used to
determine your eligibility for Victoria Transit’s Para Transit Service.
The information is confidential and only shared with agencies involved
with Victoria Transits eligibility determination process, and will not be
provided to any other person or agency except as provided by the Texas Opens
Records Act. The application
processing time is approximately two weeks, and individuals are presumed
eligible for Para Transit Service until written notification is received by
mail. Re-Certification for Para
Transit Service is conduced on an annual basis.

CANCELLATION
POLICY:
An hour advance notice is required to cancel transportation
services. Three cancellations
within a thirty-day period may result in forfeiture of regular (subscription)
transportation services. (This
includes school holidays and teacher in-service.)
NO-SHOW
POLICY:
Failure to show-up at your pickup location at the designated time of
pickup and provide an hour cancellation notice is considered a “no-show”.
Three “no-shows” within a thirty day period may result in forfeiture
of regular (subscription) transportation services and/or suspension of
transportation services for one month.
PICKUP
POLICY:
Victoria Transit utilizes a 15-minute window for scheduled passenger
pickups. The window is defined as
follows: A passenger calls to
schedule transportation services at 3:00 pm. Victoria Transit can arrive to pickup the passenger as early
as 2:45 pm or as late as 3:15 pm from the scheduled time of pickup.
WAIT
POLICY:
Drivers are only allowed to wait 5 minutes for the passenger (s) to
show. If the passenger (s) do not
show up within this period, the pickup is considered a “no-show”.
The passenger (s) will be required to pay the full fare for their
“no-show” before transportation will be provided again.

Section
223 of the American with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) requires
that public entities, which operate non-commuter fixed route
transportation services, also provide complementary (similar)
Para-transit service for individuals unable to use the fixed route
system.
Part
38 of the U.S. DOT regulations of the American with Disabilities
Act states that all “common wheelchairs” and their users must
be transported. A
“common wheelchair” that does not exceed 30 inches in width
and 48 inches in length measured two inches above the ground, and
does not weigh more than 600 pounds when occupied.
Wheelchairs
are defined to include both three-wheeled and four-wheeled
mobility aids. Three-wheeled “scooters” and other
non-traditional designs that fit within these standards will be
transported. Services
will be denied if the weight limit and dimensions exceed the above
guidelines.

Passengers who use wheelchairs or
similar mobility devices will find lift access to buses throughout the service
area. The international access symbol is displayed on every accessible vehicle.
SEATING ACCESS
The seating in the front of the bus is reserved for the elderly, and/or passengers with disabilities. Each bus also has designated seating areas for persons in wheelchairs.
CALLING OUT STOPS
In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA), all operators on fixed route services announce stops as follows:
Major stops/time points along the route
Transfer locations and routes which serve them
Major intersections
Stops upon request
This service provides any passenger with information and orientation along the route and throughout the service area.

OPERATOR TRAINING
Operators are trained to meet the needs of passengers with disabilities by assisting passengers when getting on and off buses.
