Existing Equipment in the Region
The regional resources sub-committee met on several
occasions to determine the existing status of equipment inventory for first
responders within GCRPC. Equipment
lists for all counties within the region were reviewed. A partial listing of
Victoria County indicates that Victoria Fire Department has the only level A and
B Chemical Suits belonging to a government entity in the region. There are level
A and B Chemical Suits and a response team located at the Victoria Dupont
Chemical facility. BP Chemical and Dow Chemical in Calhoun County also have
Level A and Level B Chemical suits and response teams. There were no facilities
for mass decontamination listed anywhere within the region. Citizens Medical
Center has a small decontamination unit.
Equipment Deficiencies
There is the lack of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
in all reporting counties. Also,
there is a lack of decontamination equipment for chemical and biological
hazards. Problems also exist with radio interoperability throughout the region.
